A 17,000-square-foot coworking and private office facility opened Monday, Aug. 3, inside The Asher business center in downtown Allen, giving freelancers, remote workers and small teams a new flexible workspace option.
The location operates under the HQ brand, a coworking concept developed by Regus and part of the International Workplace Group network.
It occupies Suites 104-107 at 400 N. Allen Drive and offers rentable office space for individuals and teams alongside open coworking areas, according to Community Impact. The space is now open.
McKinney-based Gillett Commercial, whose owner Bucky Gillett first announced the Regus tenant in April, built The Asher and has been steadily filling the building with professional tenants. Other businesses at the address include the Allen Chamber of Commerce, True Haven Therapy, VitalCaring Group and Decima International.
The Chamber moved into a 2,500-square-foot office at The Asher on July 15 after about 30 years on McDermott Drive. The Regus HQ space is roughly seven times that size, making it the building's largest known tenant by square footage.
Allen ranked 12th nationally among top cities for small businesses in a 2024 CoworkingCafe report, which cited a 12% self-employment rate and GDP growth exceeding 33%. The city noted access to coworking spaces as one factor in the ranking.
Gillett Commercial, founded in 1997, has developed multiple commercial projects in Allen, including Allen Exchange, a three-building, 71,920-square-foot flex development at Exchange Parkway and US 75.
Its next local project, Allen Place, will bring 109,000 square feet of office and flex space to a 6.64-acre site along US 75 between McDermott Drive and Bethany Drive, according to Community Impact. Gillett purchased the land from the Allen Economic Development Corp.
"Allen checks every box for companies both big and small, searching for their next location," Gillett said in a June 9 news release about the Allen Place project.
Allen Place's groundbreaking is expected later in 2026, with completion targeted for fall 2027.
