Riley Kidney scored three goals, including the overtime winner 43 seconds into the extra period, and the Allen Americans beat the Idaho Steelheads 4-3 on Friday, Oct. 23, in Boise.

It was Kidney's first professional hat trick and the Americans' first win of the 2026-27 season. Allen improved to 1-1-0 as the Ottawa Senators' ECHL affiliate, according to the Americans' game recap.

The Americans trailed twice and never led by more than a goal. Idaho's Jaxon Fuder opened the scoring about 15 minutes into the first period, according to the Steelheads' recap. Michael Gildon answered for Allen with 57 seconds left in the frame, evening the score on a rebound. Gildon also assisted on Kidney's first goal of the night.

Kidney put Allen ahead 2-1 seven minutes into the second period, tucking the puck past Idaho goaltender Jake Barczewski on a net-front scramble. Barczewski left the game shortly after when Allen forward Miko Matikka lost an edge and collided with him. Topias Leinonen replaced Barczewski in net.

Idaho tied it 2-2 before the second period ended. Lee Lapid scored his first goal in a Steelheads uniform at 15:39 of the middle frame.

Dylan Gratton gave Idaho a 3-2 lead halfway through the third period with a one-timer from the right circle. Kidney answered just 37 seconds later, banking the puck off a defender's leg to tie the game again.

Neither team scored the rest of regulation.

Kidney ended it 43 seconds into overtime, putting a backhander top shelf past Leinonen to complete the hat trick, according to the Americans' recap.

"We got great goaltending from Jesper (Vikman)," Kidney said, according to the Americans. "He made some huge saves tonight including stopping a breakaway in the second period."

Jesper Vikman stopped 26 of 29 shots for Allen. Barczewski stopped 15 of 17 before his injury, and Leinonen turned aside 20 of 22 in relief.

Neither team converted on the power play. Allen went 0-for-5 and Idaho 0-for-3. The Americans have not allowed a power-play goal through their first two games this season.

The two teams closed their series Oct. 24 at Idaho Central Arena in Boise.
