Pete Ford Middle School student Noah Solomon now has a day named after him in Allen.

Mayor Chris Schulmeister proclaimed Aug. 11 as Noah Solomon Day at the Allen City Council meeting, honoring the young athlete for earning Most Valuable Player honors on Team USA's gold-medal U15 basketball squad at the 2026 Paris World Games in France.

Solomon was selected through PhD Hoops USA to represent the country at the international tournament, which drew young athletes from 130 countries competing in basketball, soccer, handball and rugby sevens. Team USA won gold in the U15 basketball division. Solomon took home MVP for what the city's proclamation described as his performance and demonstration of teamwork, character and integrity.

PhD Hoops USA coach Rob Fry posted the championship result on Instagram on July 27, sharing the final score:

@coach_fry15: "Gold medal champs, once again! PhD Hoops USA-97 Seminario College- 51"

Council members congratulated Solomon and recognized the coaches, mentors and family members who supported his path to the international stage.

Boxing program earns its own month

At the same Aug. 11 meeting, Schulmeister proclaimed August 2026 as Allen Police Youth Boxing Program Month. The program, a partnership between the Allen Police Department and Allen ISD, has served more than 120 youth ages 10–18 since opening in October 2024.

In less than two years, program athletes have earned 10 tournament championships, including five titles won by one female boxer.

Other Allen Police Youth Boxing Gym competitors at that national event included Guillermo Rangel and Ian Savellano.

The boxing program provides mentorship, academic support and training to Allen youth, with coaches, tutors and volunteers staffing the gym alongside officers.

Allen City Council next meets Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway.
