Eighty Allen High School seniors earned recognition as Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, the district announced Monday, Oct. 19.
The students scored among the top 50,000 test-takers nationwide on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), according to Allen ISD.
About 34,000 of those high scorers received the Commended designation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), the nonprofit that runs the program.
The 80 honorees join 25 Allen High seniors named Semifinalists in September. The combined total: 105 students.
Commended Students needed a Selection Index score of at least 208. They will not advance in the scholarship competition, but they receive Letters of Commendation from their school and the NMSC. Commended Students remain eligible for some corporate-sponsored Special Scholarships through the program.
Semifinalists needed a score of 219 or higher in Texas, according to test-prep site Compass Prep. Those 25 students compete for roughly 6,700 scholarships worth nearly $24 million. Finalists will be announced in February 2027.
