The Allen Americans carry an 0-1 record into Boise on Friday, Oct. 23, for the first of two games against the Idaho Steelheads, who have yet to lose this season.
Puck drop is set for 8:10 p.m. CST. The game is the middle leg of a four-game road trip for Allen, according to the team's game-day preview.
The Americans, the ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, dropped their season opener 5-4 to the Tulsa Oilers on Oct. 17 at the BOK Center. Allen trailed, tied and led at various points.
Forward Chase Coughlin scored his first professional goal 33 seconds after Tulsa opened the scoring. Hank Crone set up Miko Matikka on a two-on-one break to put Allen ahead 2-1 in the first period.
Sam Lipkin and Mathieu De St. Phalle also scored for Allen in the second period, but the game was knotted 4-4 heading into the third.
Tulsa's Zach Murray poked the puck into an open net after a bad bounce to seal the 5-4 win.
Idaho presents a stiffer test. The Steelheads swept the New Mexico Goatheads in three games to open the season, outscoring them 13-6, according to the Steelheads' weekly report. Idaho's power play clicked at 41.6 percent over that stretch, second in the ECHL.
Forward Liam Malmquist leads Idaho with five points on three goals and two assists in three games. Rookie Jaxon Fuder and Mason Nevers each posted four points during the opening sweep.
Allen will be without forward Spencer Asuchak, who is tied with Hank Crone for the team lead with two assists but will miss the Idaho series, according to the Americans' preview. The Belleville Senators recalled goaltender Kevin Reidler, who had been assigned to Allen for the opener. Forward Luke Mistelbacher was assigned to the Americans on Thursday, Oct. 22, after playing three games with Belleville last season.
Nine players returned from last season's roster, including forwards Brayden Watts, Hank Crone and Riley Kidney, along with defensemen Sam Sedley, Andre Anania, Quinn Warmuth and Jackson Decker.
Fans who cannot make the trip to Boise can watch on FloHockey.tv or listen to broadcaster Tommy Daniels on the Americans 24/7 stream. The pregame show starts at 7:50 p.m. CST.
