The HUB at The FARM shut its doors Monday, July 20, putting nearly 100 employees out of work and leaving a 35,000-square-foot vacancy in Allen's marquee mixed-use development.
The family entertainment and dining venue's operators announced the closure in a social media post, blaming a local restaurant market too crowded to sustain the concept. They said additional information would be shared as it becomes available but offered no details about what happens next for the space.
The HUB opened in 2022 at The FARM's Central District, located at the southeast corner of SH 121 and Alma Drive. Over its nearly three years of operation, the venue claimed more than $20 million in local economic impact. The figure was not broken down further.
The FARM's bigger picture
The FARM is a 135-acre development by JaRyCo, an Allen-based company led by president Bruce Heller. The Allen City Council created TIF Zone 3 for the project on November 17, 2020, and the city entered an Economic Development Agreement with The Farm Development Co. on February 10, 2021.
At full buildout, The FARM is planned to include 1.6 million square feet of office space, 142,000 square feet of retail, a 150-room hotel, 60,000 square feet of restaurants, 112 townhomes and 2,400 urban residential units, according to the Allen Economic Development Corporation.
In February 2026, Heller described his vision for The FARM as "more of a place where, whether you live there, you work there, or you live in the 3 miles around it, you can go and relax and sit by the lake and grab something to eat".
Dan Bowman, executive director of the Allen EDC, said hat a proposed $950 million Kalahari resort would support surrounding mixed-use developments. That resort remained in its design phase as of early 2026.
Neither JaRyCo nor the Allen EDC has publicly commented on The HUB's closure or what tenant might fill the vacated space. No city council agenda item related to the space has been posted.
The FARM's third residential phase of 300 units was scheduled to begin construction within 90 days of February 2026, and a Hilton Home2 Suites was expected to break ground in July 2026.
