The 35,000-square-foot space left vacant by The HUB food hall at The Farm in Allen won't stay empty for long.
Another group has plans for the site, HUB founder and CEO Brad Zeitlin confirmed to Community Impact, which reported the development on July 23.
"Another group has plans for the location; however, there is no more information available at this time," Zeitlin said.
In their farewell statement posted Sunday, July 20, The HUB's owners described the incoming group as "fantastic" but offered no further details about the concept, timeline, or identity.
Why The HUB closed
The HUB shut down Monday, July 20, after nearly four years at 1289 Johnson Road within The Farm, the 135-acre mixed-use development near State Highway 121 and Alma Road.
The closure put nearly 100 employees out of work.
Zeitlin pointed to a crowded dining market. Since The HUB opened in November 2022, 28 additional restaurants opened within a one-mile radius of the venue, according to the company's farewell statement.
Meanwhile, the surrounding Farm development has not delivered the residential and office density its builders envisioned. The HUB's operators said very little residential or office growth had occurred at The Farm since the venue opened, even though the master plan calls for about 2,400 homes and 1.6 million square feet of office space at full buildout, according to the Allen Economic Development Corporation.
The HUB's parent company, Woodford Capital, invested more than $20 million between 2021 and 2022 to build the open-air venue, which featured restaurants, bars, a live music stage, and a large artificial turf area for children and pets.
The company said more than half a million people visited during its run.
The Farm's future
The Farm broke ground on Phase 1 in 2021 and is planned to include 142,000 square feet of retail, a 150-key hotel, 60,000 square feet of restaurants, 112 townhomes, and 2,400 urban residential units alongside the office space.
JaRyCo Development is the master developer.
No permit filings, lease agreements, or public hearing dates tied to the new operator have surfaced. Zeitlin said more information would be shared as it becomes available.
