State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, an Austin Democrat, is running for governor of Texas in the 2026 general election. She faces Republican Gregory Wayne Abbott and Libertarian Pat Dixon
This candidacy is listed in the Texas secretary of state’s official November 3, 2026 certification for Collin County.
In 2005, Hinojosa was part of the legal team that sued then-U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on money laundering charges, according to EMILYs List. Hinojosa's endorser EMILYs List credits her with helping deliver more than $11 billion in new funding for Texas public schools in 2019, leading efforts to reduce overtesting and passing pay raises for every teacher in the state.
Education: Hinojosa said on her campaign website that she fights for neighborhood schools "alongside both union teachers and MAGA moms" and that the priority is "putting our kids first." She has called for ending outdated funding formulas that she said negatively impact poor or minority school districts, and for investing in school safety and teacher pay.
Economy: Hinojosa said Texas should provide opportunities for small businesses and working Texans rather than incentivizing private equity and corporate giants, according to her campaign website.
Health care: Hinojosa said on her campaign site that private equity is buying up health care infrastructure and charging patients more for less care. She called for reining in what she described as out-of-control profiteers making health care more expensive.
Environment and energy: Hinojosa said Texas is the national leader in greenhouse gas emissions and that any national plan to address climate change must include Texas as an essential part, according to her campaign website.
Guns: Hinojosa said public universities need the same right as private universities to opt out of campus carry and that the state needs more funding for mental health, according to her campaign website.
