A Harry Potter-themed gift shop has set up inside Lone Star Mercantile on West McDermott Drive after its previous home in Frisco shut down in April.

The Muggle Hut, owned by Michael Dooley, relocated to a booth at the Allen boutique marketplace in June, Community Impact reported.

The shop sells licensed wizarding costumes, apparel, toys, games, crafts, treats and collectibles inspired by the Harry Potter series, according to its Facebook page.

Dooley's previous location was inside Painted Tree Boutique at 2930 Preston Road in Frisco. That store closed abruptly in April as part of a nationwide shutdown of all 60-plus Painted Tree Boutiques locations, which CBS News Texas reported was driven by rising costs, shifting market conditions and changes in consumer shopping behavior.

Painted Tree operated on a commission-based model, leasing booth space to vendors and taking a cut of their sales. When the chain folded, vendors at six North Texas locations were displaced: Frisco, Grapevine, Highland Village, Lewisville, Mansfield and North Richland Hills. Vendors were told to retrieve all inventory by April 24.

In an April statement, the company called the outcome heartbreaking and said the decision did not come lightly.

Dooley landed at Lone Star Mercantile, a family-owned marketplace at 2031 W. McDermott Drive, Suite 295, that hosts more than 250 local vendors. The store carries clothing, home decor, jewelry, handmade goods, vintage items, bath and body products, edibles and seasonal merchandise, with new products added weekly from its roster of small businesses.

The Muggle Hut adds a specialty fandom retail niche to that mix, offering Allen shoppers a local source for licensed Harry Potter merchandise without a trip to a theme park gift shop or big-box retailer.

Lone Star Mercantile's hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The store's phone number is (972) 332-8744.
