Evan Hunt, a Democrat from McKinney, is running for U.S. House of Representatives in Texas's 3rd Congressional District. He faces Republican Keith Self in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.
This candidacy is listed in the Texas secretary of state’s official November 3, 2026 certification for Collin County.
Asked why he is running, Hunt said in our questionnaire: "I'm running because representation should mean service. After 20 years in the Air Force and a career helping American businesses compete globally, I want to bring that same commitment to serving the people of North Texas."
Party: Democrat
Residence: McKinney
Education: Asked about his education, Hunt said in our questionnaire: "I double-majored in Political Science and History at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a master's degree in International Relations and Conflict Resolution from American Military University."
Hunt described his work history in our questionnaire: "I'm a Global Vice President leading a business development team that provides counter-drone radars to commercial and military customers, and a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel."
He said he "served 20 years across active duty and the Air National Guard after joining one week after September 11." His service included "combat missions in Afghanistan, deployments supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn, squadron command, and leading a two-year transition from C-21 aircraft to C-130H transports at Bradley Air National Guard Base," Hunt said in our questionnaire.
Hunt said he retired in 2022, according to his campaign website.
Top priority: Hunt said in our questionnaire: "My top priority is restoring government's accountability to the people by ending partisan gerrymandering and getting big money and special interests out of politics." He said he supports "12-year congressional term limits, 18-year Supreme Court terms, a binding Supreme Court code of ethics, and stock-trading bans for lawmakers and officials involved in making laws."
Affordability: Hunt said in our questionnaire: "Congress should lower essential costs and simplify taxes so working families keep more of their earnings." Separately in the same answer, he said he supports "cutting the employee Social Security tax rate to 6%, removing the earnings cap, simplifying tax filing, expanding family tax credits, and closing 'buy, borrow, die' loopholes."
Healthcare: Hunt said in our questionnaire: "I support a public option for basic, preventive and emergency care so nobody is one medical crisis away from bankruptcy, while preserving private insurance and patient choice."
Education: Hunt said on his campaign website that he is "firmly against voucher initiatives which will inevitably harm public schools, especially in districts like Plano ISD, Frisco ISD, and Allen ISD, which already face financial challenges due to the state's recapture system."
Energy: Hunt said in our questionnaire: "Congress should pursue an all-of-the-above energy strategy that delivers reliable, affordable power while reducing pollution and addressing climate change." He added: "I will stand up for residents facing massive data-center development. These companies should pay for the additional power, water and infrastructure they require, rather than shifting costs onto households."
