Families walking into Curtis Middle School's Meet the Teacher event for the 2026-2027 school year got their first look at a campus mid-transformation.
Hallways and common areas now feature red, black and gray accents. Collaborative learning spaces, modern wall finishes and LED lighting have replaced older fixtures, according to Allen ISD.
The redesigned library features suspended acoustic panels beneath a new skylight that floods the room with natural light.
The renovation is not finished. Allen ISD said work will continue in phases throughout the school year, though the district has not published a detailed timeline or identified which areas remain incomplete. The district has also not released a specific cost figure for the Curtis project.
Curtis was one of three Allen ISD campuses to reopen with renovations ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. Anderson Early Childhood School completed a $30.4 million overhaul, and Cheatham Elementary also received upgrades under the same bond program, as Community Impact reported in August.
Voters approved the funding in November 2024 when two bond propositions totaling more than $442 million passed at the polls. Proposition A, at $419.1 million, covers full renovations at multiple campuses along with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing and concrete work. Proposition C added $23.1 million for computer updates across all campuses. According to the Allen Chamber of Commerce, Proposition A passed with 56% of the vote and Proposition C with 53%.
Proposition A also funds campus security improvements and transportation upgrades, including bus replacements and safety features, according to the chamber.
Allen ISD said in a statement that the upgrades at Curtis reflect community support through the bond election. Additional phases of construction will continue on campus throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
