Deanna Kuykendall was sworn in Tuesday, Aug. 25, as the newest member of the Collin College Board of Trustees. She joins the board weeks before Allen-area voters decide on a $600 million bond that includes expansion of the Technical Campus at 2550 Bending Branch Way.
Kuykendall, a McKinney resident and director of government affairs at the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), fills the Place 8 seat and will serve until the next regular board election in May 2027, according to a Collin College announcement.
The college did not state why the seat was vacant.
The $600 million bond package, called Proposition A, goes before voters Nov. 3. It would fund two new campuses in Anna and Royse City, a new Aviation Academy in McKinney and expansions at six existing campuses. No tax-rate increase is expected.
Board Chair Jay Saad called Kuykendall's experience, leadership and commitment to Collin County "valuable assets to the Board." In an Aug. 13 news release announcing the bond vote, Saad said the board has "always believed in planning for the future while honoring the commitments we've made to our community."
At NATA, Kuykendall leads legislative and regulatory initiatives on behalf of the athletic training profession.
She currently serves on the Collin County Child Protective Services Board, the McKinney Board of Adjustment and the Community Engagement & Opportunity Council Advisory Board. Her previous civic roles include the McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission and the Volunteer McKinney Board.
Kuykendall said she is "honored to have the opportunity to serve" and that Collin College "plays an important role in the success of our community and our future generations."
The bond is part of Destination 2030, the college's seven-year master and strategic plan. Credit enrollment has grown more than 31% over the past decade, and Collin College serves more than 62,000 credit and continuing education students annually.
Voter registration for the Nov. 3 election closes Oct. 5. Early voting runs Oct. 19–30.
