Allen residents who live in Texas House District 70 will decide between Democratic incumbent Mihaela Plesa and Republican challenger George Flint when they head to the polls Nov. 3.

The district stretches across parts of Allen, Plano, Richardson and north Dallas in southern Collin County.

The deadline to update a voter registration address is Oct. 5, and early voting begins Oct. 19, according to Rolling Out's reporting on state election records.

Community Impact published a candidate Q&A on Sunday, Aug. 30, giving HD70 voters a side-by-side look at both candidates' positions.

The Q&A, written by Patricia Ortiz, asked candidates to keep answers to 50 words and avoid attacking opponents.

Plesa seeks third term

State Rep. Mihaela Plesa has held the HD70 seat since 2022, winning reelection in 2024 by roughly four percentage points, according to The Dallas Morning News. She ran unopposed in the March 3 Democratic primary.

A former small-business owner, Plesa has focused on affordability, education and healthcare.

She told The New York Times on Feb. 27 that cost of living is the top concern she hears from constituents: "How do I afford groceries, how do I pay my rising mortgage, my insurance keeps going up."

Flint pitches property tax elimination

George Flint, a former district judge and former Collin County Republican Party chairman, won the March 3 GOP primary over two opponents. He won by a wide margin, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Flint's primary campaign centered on eliminating property taxes and securing the border.

To replace lost property tax revenue, he floated raising sales taxes or tapping extra funding that could result from Plano leaving Dallas Area Rapid Transit, according to the Morning News.

What's ahead

The Morning News noted Republicans see an opportunity to flip the seat, pointing to Plesa's roughly four-point margin in 2024. The full Community Impact Q&A offers a closer look at where both candidates stand on issues facing the district.
