Allen's nationally ranked Lady Eagles will play host to some of the state's top volleyball programs when the Allen Varsity Texas Open opens Friday at Lowery Freshman Center.
The two-day tournament, running Aug. 21-22, draws a field that includes No. 8 Wylie in the TGCA Class 6A poll, No. 9 McKinney Boyd, Katy, Waco Midway, Richardson and San Antonio Cornerstone Christian, ranked No. 3 nationally by MaxPreps. Pool play begins at 9 a.m. Friday.
Cornerstone Christian has the Allen Texas Open on its 2026 schedule alongside the Ann Kang Invitational, Durango Fall Classic and Nike TOC.
Allen enters with firepower
The Lady Eagles are No. 8 in the MaxPreps national preseason top 25 and No. 2 in the Dallas Morning News Dallas-area rankings after going 37-7 last season, reaching the regional semifinals. Allen opened 2026 with wins over Flower Mound and Richardson Pearce, according to the Allen American.
Junior outside hitter Maya Ogbogu headlines the roster. The Texas A&M commit is the nation's top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2028 and hammered 444 kills, 234 digs and 59 blocks as a sophomore.
She forms a potent duo with fellow junior Olivia Kitur, a Baylor pledge, and Allen returns six hitters who logged at least 180 kills last season.
Sayge Chandler anchors the middle.
Setter Landry McRae (Cal Baptist commit), right-side hitter Gaby Wenger (Samford) and defensive specialist Holland Young (Endicott College) round out a roster with five college-committed players.
MaxPreps identified replacing graduated libero Campbell Sheffield as the team's biggest question mark heading into the season.
The field
Wylie (9-1) arrives riding a 7-1 run at the Grapevine Volleyfest, where the Lady Pirates posted two wins over defending District 5-6A champion Hebron. Senior outside hitter/setter Keelyn Green earned all-tournament honors there. Wylie opens pool play Friday at 9 a.m. against Richardson, then faces Katy at 11:30 a.m. and Waco Midway at 3:15 p.m., according to Wylie News.
Texas leads all states with 18 programs in the MaxPreps preseason top 100, and several of those squads will be inside Lowery Freshman Center this weekend testing themselves before UIL district play begins.
