Signal upgrades at two Bethany Drive intersections are finished, and crews are now performing restoration work at both locations.
Allen communications manager Kristi Soto told Community Impact the completed signals sit at Bethany Drive and Century Parkway and at Bethany Drive and Greenville Avenue. At Main Street and Greenville Avenue, signal poles have been replaced and median improvements are underway on the west side of the intersection.
The Highway Safety Improvement Program covers modernized signals, upgraded equipment and enhanced pedestrian features at multiple Allen intersections.
The City of Allen and the Texas Department of Transportation are splitting the $5.8 million cost. The project had been scheduled for completion by summer 2026, but restoration work continues.
Greengate sidewalk crews advance to new streets
Sidewalk repair contractors have pushed deeper into the Greengate neighborhood. Crews are working along Edelweiss Drive, Carnation Drive, Petunia Drive and Alder Drive, Soto said.
As of an Aug. 10 update, work was concentrated on Edelweiss Drive, Allen Heights Drive, Malone Road and Story Park.
Flameleaf Drive, Haven Place and Bluebonnet Drive are next.
Allen City Council approved a $2,156,600 contract with Cole Construction for the project, funded through voter-approved 2023 general obligation bonds, according to city council records.
The scope includes 109 ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, 50 alley approaches and targeted sidewalk panel replacements throughout Greengate and along Allen Heights Drive. Completion is expected between December 2026 and early 2027.
Heritage Parkway, Bethany Drive pavement work active
The 2026 Street and Alley Rehabilitation project has moved to Heritage Parkway between Park Place Drive and Bethany Drive and to Bethany Drive between Allen Heights Drive and Greenville Avenue, Soto said.
She said Sept. 7 that work at both locations was expected to continue about another month.
Council awarded Jim Bowman Construction a $4,873,703 contract at its Feb. 24 meeting.
On Aug. 25, council approved a $350,000 amendment to cover about 2,050 square yards of deteriorated pavement on Bethany Drive west of Allen Heights Drive, bringing the total to roughly $5.2 million, Community Impact reported.
The project reconstructs pavement flagged in a 2022 pavement condition survey that evaluated more than 600 lane-miles of Allen roads. Completion is expected in March 2027.
Allen City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway.
