The Radha Krishna Temple in Allen opens a month of spiritual programming Saturday, Sept. 26.
A 15-day scripture series leads the schedule, followed by a nine-day Navratri festival.
The scripture series, called a Jnana Yajna, runs daily from Sept. 26 through Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11:30 a.m. Acharya Sudhir Bhatt will lead each one-hour session, narrating stories from the Shrimad Bhagavatam, a sacred Hindu text.
The series falls during Pitru Paksha, a sacred fortnight in the Hindu calendar dedicated to honoring departed ancestors.
Sessions will cover devotional stories including the birth of Krishna, the Govardhan Leela and Rukmini Vivah, according to the temple's newsletter.
The temple is also offering a group Tarpan Puja, an ancestral prayer ceremony, throughout the same 15-day period.
Families can attend in person for $51 or join online via Zoom for $31, according to the temple's event page.
The Jnana Yajna concludes Oct. 10 on Sarva Pitru Amavasya with a Purnahuti closing ceremony and Brahm Bhojan, a meal offered to honor ancestors.
One day later, the temple's Navratri Mahotsav begins. The nine-day festival runs Sunday, Oct. 11, through Tuesday, Oct. 20, honoring the Hindu goddess Durga and culminating in Dusshera, which marks the victory of good over evil.
Tickets are required for Garba entry.
Nightly Garba dancing starts at 7:30 p.m., and the temple asks attendees to arrive 15 minutes early. Ticket details are available at radhakrishnatemple.net.
A Kids Garba Workshop for children ages 3 to 10 is scheduled for Oct. 10 and Oct. 12–15 from 6 to 7 p.m. The temple is offering daily giveaways for every child, plus prizes for best Garba dancing and best outfit.
The temple, which serves as headquarters for the JKYog spiritual organization, is at 1450 N. Watters Road.
