Exterior brick and stone are going up on Allen's new police headquarters, and the $97.1 million project remains on schedule for an early 2027 opening, according to a city construction update published July 10.

The 103,000-square-foot, three-story facility on Century Parkway, between City Hall and the Allen post office, is about 17 months into construction. Crews expect the building to be "dried in" by late July, a milestone that will allow interior work to continue regardless of weather. Permanent power and HVAC systems are slated for activation in fall 2026, letting crews finish interior spaces in a climate-controlled environment.

The building will nearly triple the department's current footprint. Allen's existing headquarters at 205 W. McDermott Drive was built in 1988 as a single-story structure when the city had fewer than 20,000 residents. Multiple expansions brought it to 36,000 square feet, but with Allen's population now exceeding 111,000, the department outgrew the space years ago.

Allen voters approved an $83 million bond for the project in November 2023. Federal grants, interest earnings, and strategic savings cover the remaining cost, bringing the total budget to $97.1 million. City Council approved the final guaranteed maximum price of $67,710,145 for vertical construction at its June 24, 2025 meeting. General contractor CORE Construction Inc. also holds a $1.63 million contract amendment for security and access control systems, approved by council on February 10, 2026.

The facility will include an expanded evidence and property room, a larger crime-scene lab, secure parking, a human performance center for officer wellness, and indoor and outdoor fitness spaces supporting the department's Fit Force program. Quiet rooms and decompression spaces are planned for officers returning from difficult calls. Dedicated visitor parking near the front entrance will replace the current setup, which requires visitors to park behind the building and walk around to the main door.

At the February 24, 2025 groundbreaking ceremony, Police Chief Steve Dye called the headquarters "a symbol of the strong partnership between the Allen Police Department and our community."

The final months of construction will focus on installing furniture, dispatch equipment, and technology. No specific opening date beyond "early 2027" has been announced.
