Four Allen ISD orchestra ensembles placed in the top four at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Orchestra State Finals, marking the first time in district history that four groups earned state-level placements in the same year.
The results span three campuses.
Ereckson Middle School led the way with two second-place finishes: its Chamber Orchestra in the Middle School String Division and its Symphony Orchestra in the Middle School Full Division. Curtis Middle School's Symphony Orchestra earned fourth place in the Middle School Full Division, and Allen High School's Symphony Orchestra placed fourth in the High School Full Division.
"To have four ensembles place at the state level in the same year is a monumental achievement for our entire community," David DeVoto, Allen High School's director of orchestras, said in a district announcement published Monday, Aug. 10.
DeVoto credited student musicians, music directors, private lessons staff, administrators and parents for the results. The TMEA Honor Orchestra competition requires ensembles to advance through multiple rounds of recorded adjudication before the state's highest-performing programs receive final placements.
All four ensembles are now invited to perform at the 2027 TMEA Clinic & Convention in San Antonio. A TMEA Facebook post confirmed the invitation, though specific performance dates for the orchestra groups have not been announced
