Allen ISD families can choose from eight free sessions on topics including artificial intelligence, e-bike safety and Stop the Bleed training at the district's Community Engagement Night on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The conference-style event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Allen ISD STEAM Center, 1680 Ridgeview Drive. A free pizza dinner starts at 5:30 p.m., with sessions beginning at 6:15 p.m. The district first announced the event Aug. 21 and has since expanded the session lineup.
Attendees pick two sessions across two time slots. The first runs from 6:15 to 6:55 p.m. and the second from 7:05 to 7:45 p.m.
Two sessions are available only during the first slot: a sports injury prevention workshop led by Children's Health and a Stop the Bleed training taught by Allen ISD nurses.
Other offerings cover a wide range. Dr. Ryan Smith leads a session called "AI and Kids: What Every Parent Should Know."
Nelson Orta, Allen ISD's executive director of technology services, covers cybersecurity, passwords and internet safety. Allen ISD chef Anna Reynolds runs a healthy, budget-friendly cooking demonstration.
The City of Allen presents a session on e-bike safety, common risks and riding tips. The Grant Halliburton Foundation leads two sessions: "Boundaries and Healthy Peer Relationships" in the first slot and "From Mind Full to Mindful: Understanding Stress, Anxiety, and Burn Out" in the second. Student-led tours of the STEAM Center are available during both time slots.
Families can RSVP through the district's website. Full session descriptions are posted on the Allen ISD STEAM Center page.
