Allen ISD brought a group of experienced teachers together with district administrators for a second-year leadership cohort workshop focused on mentoring and career development.
Participants practiced strategies for mentoring new teachers, studied adult learning theory and National Education Association (NEA) standards, and discussed classroom management and educator wellness, according to the district.
The small-group sessions also gave teachers a chance to learn about leadership roles and advancement opportunities within Allen ISD.
The district described the cohort as part of its effort to retain experienced staff. Allen ISD employs roughly 2,700 people and serves more than 20,000 students.
The cohort is separate from the district's summer teacher externship program, which we reported on Sept. 6. The district has not released the cohort's size or individual participants' names.
