Allen ISD earned an overall A from the Texas Education Agency's 2026 accountability ratings, released Friday, Aug. 14, with 14 of its 22 rated campuses also pulling top marks.
The TEA released the statewide ratings, grading every public school district and campus on an A-through-F scale. Allen ISD's results break down this way:
- 14 campuses earned an A
- 7 elementary campuses earned a B
- 1 elementary campus earned a C
The district also collected 38 Distinction Designations spread across 15 campuses. Those designations are awarded when a school outperforms a comparison group of 40 similar campuses statewide in areas like academic growth, postsecondary readiness or subject-specific achievement in reading, math, science or social studies.
The ratings draw on 2025-26 STAAR and end-of-course exam results, graduation rates and college, career and military readiness outcomes. TEA evaluates three domains: Student Achievement, which measures whether students met grade-level standards; School Progress, which tracks year-over-year growth; and Closing the Gaps, which examines performance differences among student groups.
TEA Commissioner Mike Morath said the 2026 ratings reflect progress across Texas public schools while highlighting areas where improvement is still needed, according to the Dallas Morning News. Statewide, 85% of rated campuses earned a C or better, and nearly a quarter of districts improved their scores. Neighboring Frisco ISD also maintained an A, bumping its numeric score from 90 to 91.
The A is not new territory for Allen ISD. The district earned the same grade during former Superintendent Robin Bullock's tenure, according to district records. Acting Superintendent Kim McLaughlin, who took over after Bullock retired following the 2025-26 school year, has not issued a public statement about the ratings. At the district's convocation ceremony on Aug. 13, McLaughlin told staff that the thousands of people working behind the scenes to prepare campuses deserve recognition for what students see when they walk through the doors.
Allen ISD serves more than 20,000 students. The district has not identified which specific schools received each grade, but campus-by-campus results are available at txschools.org.
One detail worth watching: the 2026 ratings are among the last tied to STAAR testing. Texas plans to replace STAAR with the Student Success Tool beginning in the 2027-28 school year, the Allen American reported, meaning next year's accountability system could look substantially different for Allen families.
