The Allen High School Varsity Men's Choir will perform at the 2027 Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio after earning one of just 14 invitations from a pool of more than 130 middle school, high school and college choirs. It's a first for the men's choir.

The selection came through a blind audition process in which TMEA judges evaluated anonymous recordings without knowing which school submitted them. Each applicant submitted 10 to 15 minutes of recordings spanning at least two of the three most recent academic years, along with a proposed performance program, according to Allen ISD. Allen's choir competed against ensembles at every level on the strength of its sound alone.

TMEA confirmed the full list of 14 selected choirs on its Instagram page.

"It's been a privilege to watch our students each year continue to work and present musical presentations that set them apart," Allen ISD Director of Choirs Trenton Davis said in the district's announcement Monday, Aug. 10.

Davis noted the invitation marks the third time in Allen High School history and the fourth time for Allen ISD overall that a choir has been invited to perform at the TMEA Convention. The prior invitations involved different ensembles, though the district did not specify which choirs or years.

The Varsity Men's Choir will take the stage Feb. 11 or 12, 2027, during the convention, which runs Feb. 10-13 in San Antonio. A specific concert date and time have not yet been announced.

The TMEA Invited Ensemble honor is separate from the TMEA Honor Orchestra program. Allen ISD's orchestra ensembles earned four top finishes at the Honor Orchestra State Finals, also announced Monday, through a different competition format.

Families looking to follow the choir's path to San Antonio can watch for the specific performance schedule through Allen ISD fine arts communications ahead of the Feb. 10-13 convention.
