Allen High School junior Rathan Bolar brought home a silver medal from the 2026 Junior Pan American Karate Championship in San José, Costa Rica.

Bolar, competing in the 16-to-17 age category, went up against athletes from across the Americas in his fourth appearance on the USA National Team, according to an Allen ISD announcement published Thursday, Sept. 10.

The silver is the latest in a growing collection of international hardware.

Bolar already holds bronze medals from previous Junior Pan American Championships in Chile and Brazil, along with three World Karate Federation (WKF) Global Cup gold medals.

Road to Costa Rica

Bolar earned his spot on the U.S. roster by finishing among the top two athletes nationally at the 2026 USA National Championships in Spokane, Washington. The event also served as the U.S. Junior Team Trials, KXLY reported.

It was the fourth time Bolar has been selected to represent the United States at an international competition.

Training roots in Plano

Bolar has trained at the Academy of Classical Karate in Plano since he was eight years old. The dojo, located on Custer Road, specializes in Wado Ryu karate and has been operating since 1988.

He has also trained at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Allen ISD said Bolar's achievement reflects the talent within the district and the community support behind its student-athletes.

What's next

Bolar's season is not over.

He is scheduled to represent Team USA again at the 2026 World School Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The competition will add another international stage for the Allen junior, who has now medaled at Pan American Championships on three separate occasions.
