A dual credit student at Collin College earned the top score in a national math competition, the college announced in its August newsletter.
Aryan Shome became the first dual credit student in Collin College history to claim the No. 1 national ranking in the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) Student Mathematics League. The competition draws about 6,000 students from community and two-year colleges nationwide, testing creativity, analytical thinking and problem-solving through pre-calculus-level problems.
The college did not identify Shome's high school. More than 900 Allen ISD students take dual credit courses at the Collin College Technical Campus on Bending Branch Way in Allen. More than 30 Allen High School seniors earned associate's degrees through the program in spring 2026.
$1 million nursing grant
Dean of Nursing Amy Wilson secured a $1,084,499 Nursing Shortage Reduction Program grant, which the college described as among the largest in the nursing program's history. The college tied the award to the program's recent enrollment growth.
Collin College's RN-to-BSN program ranked fourth in Texas for student enrollment as of Sept. 30, 2025, and fifth statewide for graduates during the 2024-25 academic year, according to the 2025 Nursing Education Program Information Survey.
Physical therapy program repeats perfect pass rate
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program posted a 100% first-time licensure pass rate for the second consecutive year. In its first graduating class, the program was one of only 21 out of 354 nationally to hit that mark.
Faculty achievements
McKinney Campus math lab instructor Ana Mendez co-authored a paper published in the July 2026 issue of Bulletin of Mathematical Biology. Farmersville Campus agriculture professor Nicholas Cassell earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University on Aug. 10.
Plano Campus music technology coordinator Nick Knirk defended his master's thesis at Stephen F. Austin State University.
College employees also raised more than $32,000 for student scholarships through the annual silent auction.
