Allen Contemporary Theatre needs volunteers and has two shows left in its current season, with all tickets priced at $30 or less.
The nonprofit, known as ACT, stages seven shows a year at its Main Street location.
Four productions have already wrapped this season, and two more are on deck: "Dear Evan Hansen" opening Oct. 1 and "Inspecting Carol" opening Dec. 3, according to a Community Impact profile published Sept. 13.
No one pays to perform. Actors, crew members and class participants all take part at no cost.
"We provide that opportunity for people to come out and experience the arts at something that they can afford," board president Chris Berthelot told Community Impact.
ACT started about 15 years ago after the Graham family moved from Alaska to Allen, found no local theater and built one.
The group later outgrew its original space and relocated to Main Street.
Funding comes from ticket sales and sponsorships from H-E-B, the city of Allen, the Allen Arts Alliance and other supporters.
The Allen Arts Alliance, a nonprofit umbrella group for local cultural organizations, awarded more than $50,000 in grants to Allen arts groups in 2025, according to a separate Community Impact report on the alliance.
Berthelot said ACT is actively looking for volunteers. Open roles include backstage props, sound and lighting, ticket scanning, concessions, ushering and greeting patrons.
ACT also runs summer intensives, two-week camps where children and teens learn, rehearse and perform a full show.
Adults can take classes on auditioning for plays versus musicals and building a performance resume, board member Eddy Herring told Community Impact.
